Infant / Toddler Skills
Infant and toddler toys are typically designed or created with the child’s overall development in mind. For example, a toy may be both visually attractive and encourage movement. Baby blankets are a great example of this. They are intended for the baby to lie on and encourage movement; but, they are now typically brightly colored and loaded with attachments for the baby to reach, touch and manipulate. In this way, gross motor, fine motor and visual development are all being promoted.

For this reason I have not included the baby and toddler toys in the separate skill areas. They would be too difficult to place in one skill category versus another. It would also be difficult for the parent of a toddler to search through all the bigger kid toys to find the appropriate toddler or baby toy. So for ease of shopping, this section of the toy website will be dedicated solely to baby and toddler toys.

To find out more about specific skill area development, click on the skill area defined tab above. In each skill area I touch upon general skill development for both the young child and the older child. For more in depth information: Childrens Hospital
